Ruckus Performance Equine is the culmination of a shared passion between Emily and Josh Hasty — NRCHA western performance horse trainers with a strong emphasis on colt starting, lessons, and show coaching. From the first ride on a young prospect through the futurity and derby pen, every horse in the Ruckus program receives an individualized approach.

With a combined career spanning NRCHA futurities, derbies, and bridle spectaculars, Emily and Josh bring an elite-level understanding of what it takes to develop champions — both equine and human. Their program is built on patience, feel, and the belief that every horse has the potential to be extraordinary. Whether you're looking to start a colt, prepare for the NRCHA futurity or derby, or find a home base for non-pro coaching, Ruckus Performance Equine is where it happens.

THE RUCKUS METHOD

Colt starting is at the heart of everything we do. Our program is built around developing young horses from their very first rides through the NRCHA futurity and derby pen — with every step guided by patience, feel, and a deep understanding of what it takes to compete at the highest level. We also offer lessons and show coaching for non-pro and amateur riders looking for a home base.

Colt Starting & Foundation

Colt starting is where every great performance horse begins. We take our time with young horses — building trust through groundwork, developing suppleness, and establishing the body control and willingness that form the foundation for everything that comes next. Whether a horse is destined for the futurity pen or a non-pro career, it all starts here.

NRCHA Futurity & Derby

Our futurity and derby program is where young horses prove what they're made of. We have limited availability in our NRCHA futurity and derby program — each spot is reserved for horses with the talent and mind to compete at the top. From cattle introduction and cow sense development through herd work, rein work, and fence work, we prepare every horse to peak when it counts.

Lessons & Show Coaching

Whether you're a non-pro looking for a home base or a rider who wants to sharpen their skills, we offer hands-on lessons and show-day coaching tailored to your goals. From pattern work and dry work precision to managing the mental game in the pen, we help riders at every level step into the arena with confidence and a plan to win.

Training Innovation

REAL COW TRAINING

Ruckus Performance Equine is proud to incorporate the RealCow into our training program — the most versatile and realistic mechanical cow on the market. The RealCow gives us an on-demand cow solution that moves in a straight line, arc, or full circle, allowing us to school horses on boxing, fence work, and cow horse maneuvers anytime we need — without the cost, unpredictability, or logistics of live cattle. It’s ideal for building confidence in young horses, tuning futurity prospects, and helping non-pro riders develop feel and timing in a controlled environment. The result is more focused, consistent training reps that translate directly to the show pen.

NON-PRO & AMATEUR COACHING

We are deeply invested in helping non-pro and amateur riders reach their competitive goals. If you're looking for a home base for coaching, Ruckus Performance Equine offers lesson programs, show-day strategy, and hands-on mentorship. Emily and Josh work closely with each student to develop their horsemanship, build their confidence, and prepare them for success at every level of NRCHA competition.
